Shadow Shot Sunday

In the post below are a few shots taken on a small island off the West Coast of Canada. There are some carved faces in that posting, all from one pillar on an old bakery building.
I saved this shot for Shadow Shot Sunday.

I love the deep shadows that define this ancient face, especially the ones which shade the eyes making it unclear exactly what this man is watching...or what he might be thinking. I love the deep chisel marks and the natural fissures in the wood. This guy has aged beautifully; fierce, strong and proud.

  2. Now this sure is a unique shadow. So glad you saved it for SSS this week. I checked out the other carved faces below and they're fascinating! Wonder if the artist ended up with a bunch of splinters while carving. I know I would! Thanks for sharing this! :)

  7. These carved faces in this post and your recent posts are incredible. I wonder how long each one took. The beauty of the wood really is striking as well as the sculpture.

  8. In addition to the artistry in the original carving, it makes a stunning subject for a photograph. I think there is nothing more interesting to the human eye than a face.
