In the post below are a few shots taken on a small island off the West Coast of Canada. There are some carved faces in that posting, all from one pillar on an old bakery building.
I saved this shot for Shadow Shot Sunday.
I love the deep shadows that define this ancient face, especially the ones which shade the eyes making it unclear exactly what this man is watching...or what he might be thinking. I love the deep chisel marks and the natural fissures in the wood. This guy has aged beautifully; fierce, strong and proud.

Yes what a very strong image there. Great shot.
ReplyDeleteNow this sure is a unique shadow. So glad you saved it for SSS this week. I checked out the other carved faces below and they're fascinating! Wonder if the artist ended up with a bunch of splinters while carving. I know I would! Thanks for sharing this! :)
ReplyDeleteThis face is so intriguing! And the shadow adds depth to the carving! Brilliant!

ReplyDeleteVery, very nice. I love the chisel marks, too.
ReplyDeleteRugged, I love this one! The shadows really add to the depth of the cuts and carvings.
ReplyDeleteThese carved faces in this post and your recent posts are incredible. I wonder how long each one took. The beauty of the wood really is striking as well as the sculpture.
ReplyDeleteIn addition to the artistry in the original carving, it makes a stunning subject for a photograph. I think there is nothing more interesting to the human eye than a face.
